A study published in the European Heart Journal aimed to determine the incidence, predictors, and clinical outcomes of coronary obstruction in transcatheter valve-in-valve procedures. The researchers mentioned that coronary obstruction following aortic valve-in-valve procedures is a life-threatening complication. It was associated with a high 30-day mortality (52.9% vs. 3.9% in the controls, respectively). It occurred more frequently in patients with prior stentless or stented bioprostheses with externally mounted leaflets and in those with a short virtual transcatheter valve to coronary ostium distance (VTC).
